Umbral Shards are a new type of resource in New World that allows the player to increase an item's Gear Score from 590 to 625 and bump the Expertise for any gear slot from 600 to 625. Umbral Shards farming is an end-game activity that will increase the character's stats and performance and prepare it for the most challenging encounters available in the game, the Mutated Expeditions.

HOW TO GET UMBRAL SHARDS IN NEW WORLD

Players can obtain Umbral Shards by completing Mutated Expeditions, crafting gear score 600 items, and opening Gypsum casts (if the expertise for that particular slot is already level 600 or above).

WHAT IS THE BEST UMBRAL SHARDS FARMING METHOD?

The best Umbral Shards farming method is by far completing Mutated Expeditions efficiently, on the highest level possible, in the shortest amount of time. So based on the Mutation Level, ranking, and score, the players can obtain the following amount of shards:

HOW TO USE UMBRAL SHARDS IN NEW WORLD

To upgrade an item using Umbral Shards, the item's gear score and expertise for that particular gear slot must be at least level 590. Based on the current item's gear score and expertise level for that slot, the player will be required a certain amount of shards to upgrade the item and get the next expertise bump. The number of Umbral Shards needed increases for each level upgrade from 590 up to 625.

For example, if your Expertise level for the gloves slot is 590, you will have to spend 2 Umbral Shards to increase your gloves slot expertise level to 591, then 4 shards for 592, and so on, up to the last level bracket, expertise 624-625, that will require 2500 shards to spend for.
