What is the Close Scrutiny Operation?

Close Scrutiny is a Major Map Condition and the first ARC Operation introduced in the game. Unlike standard conditions that focus on environmental changes like weather or enemy density, ARC Operations revolve around a specific combat-driven objective, adding a more structured and high-stakes layer to each run.

The Close Scrutiny event in Arc Raiders is a map condition that is only live for an hour at a time, just like Night Raids and Electromagnetic Storms. It is live on the following maps:

  • Dam Battlegrounds
  • Buried City
  • Spaceport
  • Blue Gate

Close Scrutiny is designed as an end-game difficulty modifier. Dropping in with a free loadout or without a clear plan will result in an empty-handed extraction at best, and a full wipe at worst. This is why you should always be prepared with the best PvP Loadout possible.

Close Scrutiny Enemies

Enemy types that appear in ARC Raiders Close Scrutiny define the overall danger level of the operation. Understanding what you’re up against before deploying can make the difference between a successful extraction or losing your entire run. Here are the enemies you will find during this operation:

Vaporizer

The Vaporizer is the new flying ARC unit introduced in the Flashpoint Update, and it is the primary threat throughout Close Scrutiny. Vaporizers and Surveyors spawn just about everywhere during Close Scrutiny. Here is a few info about it:

  • Flying ARC with high-tracking laser attacks
  • Operates in groups, often near the Assessor
  • Laser damage stacks — sustained exposure is lethal quickly
  • Unpredictable attack pattern that punishes static cover
  • Immediately responds to the breach alarm alongside other ARC units

Never fight Vaporizers in the open. Use roofs, overhangs, and any vertical cover you can find. Audio improvements in Patch 1.22.0 make flying ARC easier to track by sound, which helps anticipate Vaporizer movement before they have line of sight.

Surveyor

Surveyors appear in increased numbers during Close Scrutiny and act as a major force multiplier. They actively scout the area and call in reinforcements as soon as they detect Raiders, quickly escalating the situation.

Clearing nearby Surveyors before engaging the Assessor is highly recommended, as it significantly reduces the risk of triggering additional enemy waves during the breach and helps keep the fight under control.

Shredder

Shredders, once limited to Stella Montis, now roam freely across all Close Scrutiny maps. They heavily punish stationary play, which becomes a major problem when you’re forced to hold position near an Assessor.

Always listen for their distinctive mechanical skittering; it’s often your only warning before they flank, and reacting quickly can be the difference between stabilizing the fight or getting overwhelmed.

What is the Assessor?

The Assessor is a massive three-legged ARC probe that deploys onto the map during the Close Scrutiny condition. It carries valuable loot and is heavily guarded by some of the most dangerous enemies you’ll encounter, making every encounter high-risk but potentially very rewarding.

The Assessor itself shows no direct aggression. It does not fire at the Raiders. Its danger comes entirely from the ARC units that escort and guard it, and from the alarm triggered during breach attempts.

They spawn a few minutes into any Close Scrutiny raid on exterior maps. They do not appear at match start. Once an Assessor lands, it is immediately marked on your compass with a probe icon. These beams are visible from a significant distance and are not subtle

How to Breach the Assessor

Assessors have three panels on them that can be broken open if you walk up on their sides. However, doing so triggers a noise alarm that alerts nearby Arc robots. Here is the process:

  • Clear Vaporizers and Surveyors in the immediate area before approaching
  • Walk up the legs of the Assessor to reach each container panel
  • Breach and loot the container; this triggers the alarm
  • Prepare for immediate ARC reinforcements, including Vaporizers
  • Repeat for the remaining containers while managing the enemy wave

Alternatively, you can take a stealth-focused approach when breaching containers. Using a Photoelectric Cloak allows you to sneak up to the Assessor, open a container, secure the loot, and disengage before the situation escalates.

Operation Loot

The Assessor in ARC Raiders is the primary source of rewards during Close Scrutiny. Ambient loot across the map is significantly reduced, making the Assessor the central objective and main reason to engage with this condition. The loot drops are as follows:

  • Dolabra Blueprint — legendary energy shotgun, with the best chance to drop from Assessors during Close Scrutiny
  • Assessor Matrix — epic recyclable material for the High Gain Antenna Project
  • Canto Blueprint — rare medium ammo SMG
  • ARC crafting components and materials
  • High-tier loot and weapons

Aside from the Assessor, ARC-related loot is also more common across the map, making Close Scrutiny a solid opportunity to farm crafting materials from defeated ARC units. Even if the Assessor is contested or already looted by another squad, you can still extract value by focusing on scavenging and efficient map routing.

Tips & Tricks

We've spent a good amount of time exploring & completing the Close Scrutiny operation. Here are some helpful tips that should hopefully help you gather loot & extract more efficiently:

  • Play Around the Assessor Spawn - Plan your route based on where the Assessor lands, so you can approach it efficiently without running through unnecessary danger zones.
  • Don’t Rush the Assessor Blindly - If you’re undergeared or late to the area, it’s often better to wait, scout, or let other squads engage first instead of forcing a risky fight.
  • Clear ARC Units Before Breaching - Always eliminate nearby enemies before interacting with the Assessor to avoid triggering overwhelming reinforcements.
  • Use Stealth When Possible - Tools like the Photoelectric Cloak can turn a chaotic fight into a clean hit-and-run, letting you secure loot without full engagement.
  • Prioritize Extraction Over Extra Loot - Securing one successful Assessor breach and extracting safely is far more valuable than overcommitting and losing everything.
  • Have an Exit Route Ready - Before engaging the Assessor, know exactly where you’ll rotate after looting to avoid getting trapped or surrounded.

Conclusion

Mastering the Close Scrutiny condition in ARC Raiders becomes much easier once you understand how the Assessor shapes map flow, risk zones, and player movement. With the right planning and timing, you can approach the objective efficiently, secure high-value loot, avoid unnecessary fights, and extract safely before other Raiders contest your position.

Learn Assessor spawn patterns, anticipate player rotations around the objective, and use positioning to your advantage. Close Scrutiny rewards Raiders who approach fights smartly, time their breaches carefully, and extract with maximum value.

ARC Raiders Close Scrutiny Operation Guide FAQs

Browse our FAQs for answers to common questions about this map condition in ARC Raiders.

What’s the best way to approach the Assessor?

A strong approach is to scout the area first, clear nearby ARC units and only engage when you have a clear plan.

Where do you get the best rewards in Close Scrutiny?

The Assessor is the main source of high-value loot. Since ambient loot is reduced, successfully breaching its containers is the most reliable way to secure valuable rewards.

How do you safely breach Assessor containers?

Clear the area before interacting, stay aware of incoming reinforcements, and be ready to disengage immediately after looting, as the breach can trigger enemy waves.

Is it worth engaging the Assessor every run?

Not always. If the area is heavily contested or already looted, it’s often better to focus on farming ARC enemies for materials and look for a safer extraction.

What’s the safest way to play around the Assessor?

Avoid rushing it early, let other squads initiate if possible, and rotate in when the situation stabilizes. Always have an exit route planned before committing to the breach.
